Heartless

Created for Kannon Dance Company, premier August 2023.

 

Speaking the truth in a public debate can be lonely. Conflict is never brought up by reason because things could have indeed been as the liar claims they were. Lies are often much more plausible and more appealing than reality because the liar has the great advantage of knowing beforehand what the audience wishes or expects to hear. He has prepared his story for the publics consumption with a careful eye to making it credible, whereas reality has the disconcerting habit of confronting us with the unexpected, for which we are never prepared.
